Choose the style you prefer, and we will engrave it with your hypothyroidism diagnosis, treatment considerations, and other pertinent information.

Hypothyroidism, also called “underactive thyroid,” is a condition, more common with women and those over 50, in which the thyroid does not produce and release the appropriate amounts of thyroid hormones. This is typically caused by a condition called thyroiditis in which the thyroid gland’s cells are damaged due to inflammation. The initial inflammation can result from pregnancy, birth defect, cancer treatment (radiation), a cold or respiratory infection, an immune system attack on the thyroid gland itself, and many other conditions and treatments.

When people have hypothyroidism, their doctors typically recommend lifelong thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Excessive sweating, shaking, restlessness, heart palpitations, and sudden weight loss can all result from too high a dosage of thyroid hormone, so it is important that patients be mindful of this and discuss any such issues with their doctors. Too low a dose can also be a major problem, causing a Myxedema coma. Such a coma is a major medical emergency and requires immediate medical attention, often including life support and intensive care treatment.

A HYPOTHYROIDISM MEDICAL ID COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE

Because of the sudden and serious nature of some of the side effects of thyroid hormone replacement therapy, people with hypothyroidism should always wear medical ID necklaces or bracelets to make first responders aware of their condition(s), medications, and any additional or complicating factors. If you or someone you love has hypothyroidism, medical ID jewelry is a true necessity. We recommend listing your name, diagnosis(es), any medications, all allergies, and emergency contact numbers.

What type of medical ID is right for me?

Our custom-engravable medical ID jewelry is just that: custom engravable. That means you can choose whatever style you like because the same Lauren’s Hope medical ID will work for any condition.
  • Interchangeable medical ID bracelets

An interchangeable medical ID is composed of a bracelet strand with a lobster clasp at either end and a removable medical ID tag. You can purchase multiple strands and continue using the same medical ID tag. If your personal information changes, you can simply replace the custom-engraved medical ID tag.
  • Non-interchangeable medical ids

Non-interchangeable or traditional medical IDs have affixed medical ID tags for an all-in-one solution.
  • MEDICAL ID CUFFS

Pull gently to open, put it on, and squeeze tighter for the right fit every time. Cuffs are an excellent option for people who experience swelling of the extremities, those with dexterity challenges, and those who have had weight loss surgery and are looking for the ultimate in adjustability.
  • MEDICAL ID necklaces

While some people simply prefer medical ID necklaces to bracelets, others choose necklaces because they cannot wear bracelets in the workplace. In any case, EMTs and other first responders are trained to check neck and both wrists for the internationally recognized medical symbol.
